‘Democrats in Congress Are a Joke,’ Says Boebert at a Hearing on the ‘Impact of Investments in Early Childhood’

Last week, during a congressional budget hearing about investing in children and schools, Colorado Congresswoman Lauren Bobert launched her comments, during her allotted time to speak, with, “Mr. Chairman, let’s just come out swinging. Democrats in Congress are a joke. Leftist policies have led to an invasion of our southern border, massive inflation, historically high gas prices, and so much more.”

The July 20 hearing of the U.S. House of Budget Committee was titled, “Examining the Powerful Impact of Investments in Early Childhood for Children, Families, and Our Nation’s Economy.”

Boebert, a Republican, didn’t praise or denounce a specific childrens program, talking instead in generalities about “failed” policies and saying that Democrats are spending money that the United States does not have.

“What do these politicians turn to when they realize November is looking like a massive red wave? They turn to the children,” Boebert said. “Let’s ignore our failed policies and talk about spending more money, and let’s say it’s for the children, so people will be okay with it. This is disingenuous. And the American people see right through it.”

Democrats on the committee criticized Republicans and talked about fully funding existing prgrams, such as Medicaid, Temporary Assistance for Need Families (TANF), and the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP).

Investing in our children is the right thing to do,” said U.S. Rep. John Yarmuth of Kentucky, the Democratic chair of the committee.

“If every life were truly sacred in this country, we wouldn’t be having a hearing about programs to keep mothers and their children healthy, fed, and cared for. We’d be fully funding them.”

Boebert said she wants to teach children that they should “love America.”

Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich was a witness at the hearing, and he agreed with Boebert, telling her, “You are exactly right. I thought actually you were being pretty darn effective just now.”

“If you really want to deal with children in poverty, get the economy growing,” said Gingrich, a Republican. “Stop the inflation. Cut taxes.”
