“Sears houses, it’s kind of become a general catch-all for house kits,” said Bill Burg, a local historian. “And there were people who ordered kit houses in California. There were local manufacturers who essentially would sell you a kit cut from local lumber. But they weren’t necessarily from Sears.”
Some Sacramento homes might be built from kits. But did they come from the Sears catalog?
